A man nationally recognized for his ability to bring out leadership skills in young people will lead a training session in Issaquah soon.
Nigel Wrangham will join with student leaders from TECH (Teens Encouraging Community Health) to facilitate an event from students in seventh, eighth, and ninth grades. The goal of the workshop is to help young people develop problem-solving skills, which they can then apply to real-world problems such as promoting mental health and preventing substance abuse. Workshop attendees will earn volunteer hours.
The workshop is entitled “Power of Me, Power of We,” illustrating the belief that working together to find solutions benefits everyone. At the event, students will be given an engaging, safe, and empowering space to discuss their opinions and learn how to lead. Topics to be covered include strategic thinking, community building, collaboration, communication skills, and inclusion. They will then learn how to bring their qualities of commitment and passion into the real world to facilitate change. Organizers can use brochure printing to create the materials necessary for events like this.
Nigel Wrangham is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Level II and Certified Prevention Specialist. He has developed specialized training presentations for young people, volunteers, and staff members, and taught at Portland Community College and the University of Oregon.
The event is set for February 12, from 12.30 pm until 4.30 pm at Issaquah Middle School.
