At a recent open house, a proposal for a large-scale mixed-use project in the Issaquah Highlands along Northeast Discovery Drive and Ninth Avenue Northeast, was recently held and revealed by developer Shelter Holdings. The company most likely turned to a poster printing company to create a large poster of their proposed design for the meeting.
There will be 1,800 housing units in the development, to be called High Street Collection. It will also have housing for seniors, medical offices, retail space over 300,000 square feet in size and 200 parking spaces. A swimming pool, bowling alley, and public areas will also be included as a result of recommendations made by the public during a meeting in May.
Residents who attended the open house were primarily concerned about traffic congestion and school crowding in the area brought on by the additional residential units.
Although some residents questioned the amount of public space and the need for more retail and residential units given that the schools in the area are already overcrowded, Shelter Holdings commented that residential units are needed to support retail.
In addition, with the proposed mixed-use development there would be roughly 700 fewer peak evening trips than was previously estimated at 2,370 peak evening trips if commercial development was the focus of the property.
