Issaquah Welcomes You is an annual event that encourages residents to celebrate their culture and share it with their friends and neighbors. The Issaquah event is part of the national Welcoming Week, at which time communities of all sizes celebrate the benefits and importance of maintaining an inclusive society, It also gives people a chance to rededicate themselves to creating safe spaces for all, including refugees, immigrants, and others who face systematic exclusion.
Everyone is invited to gather at the Community Center for a family-friendly get together that highlights Issaquah’s cultural diversity. The fun includes resource booths, interactive art, a fashion show, world dances, music, and food trucks. People are encouraged to wear their traditional clothing.
The business community is not left out of the fun. Welcoming Economies is designed to ensure that local businesses are thriving and connected, particularly as they help to expand the economy by creating jobs, expanding their cultural offerings, and bringing in new customers. Business owners are encouraged to add a pin to the “Belonging Begins with Us” map, highlighting where they were born and raised.
