The Village Theatre in Issaquah, Washington, has launched its ‘Beta Series’, an effort that expands on the Village Originals program, which in turn supports new works as they are developed. To that end, the theater is offering ‘Writing Kevin Taylor’, the second production in the series, later in February.
The play, which is a musical, made its first appearance as a reading during the 2016 Festival of New Musicals. Will Van Dyke and Josh Halloway, the authors of the piece, intend to use the run in Issaquah to test new ideas, script revisions, and music.
‘Writing Kevin Taylor’ tells the story of the eponymous hero, a novelist living and working in New York City, who finds himself struggling to get his career and his life back on track. He has already published two Books successfully, and his third book is generating buzz, but unfortunately, he is missing deadlines and his marriage has gone on the rocks. Taylor has become resigned to being a bachelor, until a wildly enthusiastic teenage fan shows up and asks to be his intern. Shortly after, the creative teen thinks up a plan to get Kevin back to his wife, with comical results.
The play is set to run from February 17 until March 5. Tickets are available online or at the box office.
