Issaquah is planning two activities for its Keep Issaquah Beautiful Day that will make the city sparkle as spring comes to the northwest.
This is the eighth year for the city’s spring cleaning event. First up is the Spring Clean-Up effort, a project that honors Earth Day. Organizers are looking for anyone who can use a shovel, push a broom, bend over to pick up litter, or who would like to plant flowers, to come out in the morning for the clean-up of the downtown area. This event begins at 9:00 am and runs until 2:00 pm, and participants will meet on Front Street, at the Historic Shell Station.
The second work party that day centers on Lake Sammamish State Park, where volunteers are encouraged to spend one or two hours getting the park ready for the upcoming spring and summer picnic season. Those taking part will be able to spend a day outdoors, helping to pick up litter, and doing small projects to make the park more beautiful. The park cleanup is scheduled for 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
People of all ages are welcome to take part in these projects. They are asked to bring gloves to protect their hands, but will be treated to snacks and refreshments when they finish their assignments.
The cleanup day is April 18, although it would be advisable to check for updates as time goes on, and flyer printing can be used to create handouts for volunteers for efforts like this.
