Issaquah schools recently passed a measure that will put a levy on next year's ballot.
The Issaquah School Board recently approved a resolution to place a replacement Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) levy on the ballot in February, 2020. The levy would maintain funding at current levels for such programs as technical and career education, safety, dual language, and mental health counselors. The new levy would replace one the voters approved in 2018, which will expire late in 2020. The district wants approval from voters for $49.85m in 2021, and $54m in 2022.
If the first levy passes, a tax will be instituted at a rate of approximately $1.33 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, or approximately $931 yearly for a house worth $700,000. The tax would be collected in 2021 from the levy made in 2020. The second levy would be made in 2021 so that taxes would be collected in 2022. The tax would be slightly higher—approximately $1.36 per $1,000 of assessed value, which comes to about $952 yearly for a $700,000 house.
Last June, a development committee was formed to look into recommending a single levy for the 2020 ballot. The committee included 24 representatives from the schools; two members of the community; one representative of seniors; one representative from the business community; and several others.
