Issaquah residents who are familiar with the classic film ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ have a chance to see how the movie works as a theatrical production, courtesy of the Village Theatre, which is putting the film on stage.
The famous storyline describes the almost overnight change that took place in Hollywood when silent film gave way to what at the time where known as ‘talkies’. Lina Lamont and Don Lockwood are a silent film couple who are trying to make the transition to the new medium. Lockwood is well received, but Lamont’s screechy, nasal voice is the despair of the studio. In addition, in the words of Lockwood in the film, she can’t sing, dance, or act. The studio decides to dub her, with comical results.
In this production Don Lockwood, the role made iconic by Gene Kelly, is played by John David Scott, and the Kathy Selden role, played by Debbie Reynolds in the movie, goes to Mallory King. The Donald O’Connor role of Cosmo Brown is handled by Gabriel Corey.
The show is running now, and continues through December 31, after which it moves to Everett, Washington. Events like this can be enhanced if production companies work with poster printing companies, which can create colorful Posters for each show.
