Issaquah gets set for annual cleanup

Issaquah prides itself on keeping the community clean, and the time has come around again for another effort.

Keep Issaquah Beautiful Day is a beautification and city-wide cleanup effort held annually. The event is organized and implemented by the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah and the Downtown Issaquah Association (DIA). The Parks and Recreation department lends their support to the day, which is designed to pick up garbage and litter throughout the city, beautify the areas by planting and weeding, and maintain Downtown Issaquah.

Both individuals and groups are needed as volunteers to spend some time making a difference to the beauty of the city. In addition to picking up trash, planting, and weeding, some sidewalk maintenance needs to be done. Jobs will be available for people of all abilities and ages, and flexible schedules are available. Participants should bring work gloves if they have them, and bring friends as well. Students will be able to earn community service hours for their participation. Events like this can benefit if organizers use flyer printing to create handouts for volunteers, including any necessary instructions about the tasks to be performed.

Cleanup efforts take place all year long, but there are three large events held in the spring, summer, and fall. This summer’s Keep Issaquah Beautiful Day is July 5, from 9.00 am until 12.00 pm, no matter the weather. The check-in location is the Historic Shell Station at 232 Front Street North.
