An upcoming meeting will explore ways to expand the LEED for Cities network.
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is organizing an event in Issaquah to increase engagement with local practitioners and governments on a number of sustainable development and green building issues. The meeting will provide an opportunity to share the LEED for Cities rating system, which was recently updated. The organizer also wants to have local leaders involved in the organization’s programs.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and new buildings often strive for a LEED certification.
Organizers suggest that the meeting will be beneficial for county and city planners, resilience and sustainability teams, facility and building managers, county managers, city managers, members of local boards and commissions, elected officials, staff members from regional government agencies, consultants to local governments, students, and sustainability professionals.
The objectives of the event are for participants to understand the services and products USGBC offers, an overview of the LEED for Cities & Communities: Existing Cities v4.1 framework, the value of leading by example and how LEED can fit into communities, and how to use USGBC to advance their sustainability and climate goals.
The non-profit U.S. Green Building Council was founded in 1993 and promotes sustainability in building construction, design, and operation.
The meeting is scheduled for July 11 at the Pickering Barn in Issaquah. When educational events like this are scheduled, organizers often work with Print shops to create course materials.
