A stand-up comedian who is a multiple contest winner is on the way to Issaquah.
Kermet Apio is a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, who has won Johnny Carson’s Great American Comedy Festival as well as the Seattle International Comedy Competition. He has performed in venues across the country, including 30 comedy clubs and 170 colleges throughout 47 states. He has also made his mark on television, appearing on A&E, Star Search, Almost Life, PBS, and NBC. He has worked with such names as Paul Reiser, Louis Anderson, and Brian Regan.
Apio has gained a reputation for being a “clean” comic since he refrains from using off-color material. Instead, he specializes in satire, sarcasm, and observational comedy, which makes his act family-friendly and has gained him an increasingly large fan base. He often jokes about his name’s similarity to that of a certain Muppet.
His career really took off after his win at the Great American Comedy Festival, which brought him a deluge of requests to perform and offers of gigs. He has gone on to appear overseas in New Zealand, Israel, China, and Canada. His laid-back approach is alluded to in the title of his CD, “Unarmed and Lethargic.”
