A brave group of people promises to visit Issaquah to freeze for fun.
These hardy souls will take part in a plunge at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah. This popular annual event starts with music, registration, and fun on Sunset Beach, followed by the plunge itself at 12.00 pm.
The first 300 participants to register will receive Polar Plunge merchandise including a commemorative sticker, souvenir pin, souvenir pair of socks, plus coupons and other swag from event partners including Campfire Coffee and Ivar’s.
In addition to literally jumping in the lake, participants have another option. Washington State Parks is urging people to take part in its yearly First Day Hikes event. These short hikes last 15-20 minutes and cover about a half-mile. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately. First Day Hikes is an initiative of the nation’s state parks, who are encouraging people to go outdoors.
A costume contest is also planned featuring three categories: the Pacific Northwest; 80’s Throwback (legwarmers welcome); or Festiveness—people are encouraged to wear antlers or dress like polar bears, anything that shows how they like to spend the holidays.
The 2024 New Years Day Polar Plunge is January 1, from 10.30 am until 12.30 pm, with hikes scheduled for 10.30 am or 11.00 am with an interpretive specialist from WSP. The individual minimum donation is $10. Organizers of events like this can have fun with the venue by using banner printing to create suitable outdoor decorations.
