Issaquah residents who enjoy taking an ice bath will soon have that option.
The Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park are the organizers of the annual Polar Plunge, which invites people to jump into the freezing lake, and enjoy live music and other fun activities on the shoreline of Sunset Beach.
The first 180 people to register will receive a hand warmer, souvenir campfire mug, and a coupon good for a cup of Ivar’s famous clam chowder. Ivar’s operates a chain of restaurants and seafood bars in the Seattle area, and has been in business since 1938.
People are encouraged to organize teams comprising their colleagues, family, or friends, create T-Shirts, or wear costumes. Solo attendees are welcome, and spectators are encouraged to attend to cheer on the swimmers.
People who will not be able to attend in person can do a plunge virtually in their hot tub, bathtub, or shower. All they need to do to receive the “swag” is to register for the event, do their version of the plunge, and send a photo. They can go to the state part office to receive their gifts.
The entry fee is $10 per person, which the Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park will use to maintain the facility.
The Polar Plunge is scheduled for January 1, with registration at 10:30 am, followed by the plunge itself at 11:00 am. Outdoor events like this can be enhanced if organizers use banner printing to create suitable decorations.
