Issaquah is throwing a party to celebrate its diverse population.
The Issaquah Culture Fest is an annual event that takes place during national Welcome Week to give residents a chance to learn about each other.
Festivities include food trucks, resources booths, Henna art, interactive art, world dances, music, and more. Talented local artists who will be performing on stage include the Seattle Shaolin Kungfu Academy, which will perform a dragon dance, and Mariachi Real de Seattle, who will play traditional folk music from Mexico. Gasango will perform music and dance from West Africa, while Xianghe-He Dance performs Chinese dance theater. Baile Folklore Colibri is a Mexican youth dance group, and Ojasvi Art is also an interpretive dance group, bringing the culture of Bali to Issaquah.
Over 30 different vendors, including local non-profit organizations and businesses, will be on hand to explain their products and services, and food trucks will be on hand as well. They include Mobile Mayan, serving Mexican food, Issaquah Ice Cream, the Brazilian Bakery Food Cart, and Momo’s Kebab. The Cougar Mountain Zoo will bring live animals, and kids can try musical instruments from different cultures. Everyone will receive a Henna design.
This year’s festival takes place from 5.30 pm until 7.30 pm on September 6 on the outside lawn at the Community Center. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. When complex events like this are organized, planners often work with flyer printing to create a schedule for attendees.
