New schools completed on time

Key Peninsula Middle School and Kopachuck Middle School have wrapped up their construction projects right on schedule, allowing them to make their grand debut for the upcoming school year.

In 2019, the Peninsula School District approved a bond worth $198.55m aimed at alleviating overcrowding in elementary schools and addressing various infrastructure requirements through school construction initiatives. The project involved enhancements to two middle and two elementary schools situated in Gig Harbor, with the bond also funding the construction of two brand new elementary schools. Construction commenced at the start of 2020, and by 2022, all four elementary school projects had been successfully finalized. Graphic design is an important part of bringing such projects to life.

Evergreen Elementary and Artondale Elementary underwent renovations, while Pioneer Elementary and Swift Water Elementary were newly constructed. The final upgrades at Key Peninsula Middle School and Kopachuck Middle School were completed over the summer season.

Danielle Chastaine, the spokesperson for the Peninsula School District, spoke to the press to say:

“Back in 2019 we had an influx of elementary students coming into our middle schools, and overcrowding was going to be an issue. Although enrollment has decreased, the choice to add more classrooms means we are able to lessen the number of portables at our middle schools.”

Both schools also underwent enhancements to their water systems, fire systems, electrical systems, kitchen facilities, and lighting. Improvements were also made to their ventilation and heating systems.
