Mayor Tracie announces citys milestones for October

Gig Harbor celebrated two important milestones in October.

The first milestone happened on October 4th. The Puyallup Tribe of Indians and the Lyons Family Trust celebrated the purchase of a parcel of land called the North Creek Salmon Heritage Site Phase I. The area is located to the north of the Gig Harbor Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The city purchased the plot via the Lyons family. The family agreed to the purchase on the condition that the site is preserved from development and the purchase was celebrated with what they called an “un-groundbreaking ceremony.” The city will ensure that the property is kept in its most natural state, making it a part of the city’s official parks system. The only possible development would be a path that connects Harborview Drive to the salmon viewing locations and the Cushman Trail.

Katrina Knutson, the City Administrator, announced that the city had also purchased the site for Phase 3 of what will be the North Creek Salmon Heritage Site. The purchase was made as part of a partnership with the Great Peninsula Conservancy which will be in charge of maintaining the property. Agreements like this can be signed on documents with official Letterheads.

The second milestone that was celebrated in October was the Eddon Boatyard house’s grand opening. The house was remodeled so that the local boat shop can house its historic document projects on the upper floor. Small gatherings in public will be held on the ground floor.
