The Federal Way Symphony is ending its current season with a concert that has music for everyone.
The works on the program are Robert Schumann's Symphony no. 3, the “Rhenisch”; Igor Stravinsky's famous score “The Firebird”; and Johannes Sebastian Bach's “Keyboard concerto no. 1.” The three works span centuries: Schumann wrote his symphony in 1850; “The Firebird” premiered in Paris in 1910; and Bach wrote his concerto sometime in the early 1730s.
The pianist for the Bach piece is Steve Silverberg, who was just nine years old in 2011 when he won a gold medal in the Seattle Internationalization Piano Competition. The concerto was composed not for the piano, but the harpsichord.
“The Firebird” will probably be familiar to most concertgoers, although it is most often performed as a ballet. The work is the tale of Prince Ivan, who captures the Firebird, a magical creature. She begs him for her life, and says she will give him a magic feather he can use to summon her if he needs her help to save himself. Shortly after, she helps save his life.
Schumann composed Symphony no. 3 after he visited the Rhineland. The music depicts the Rhine River, as well as incorporating a German folk dance.
The concert is April 5 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm, at the Performing Arts Event Center. Brochure printing can provide attractive programs for this type of event.
