Federal Way festival celebrates special blooms

Each spring, a special plant blooms in a Federal Way garden, and it has set aside a day to celebrate these unique blooms.

Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden is home to a planting of Meconopsis, which is also known as the Himalayan blue poppy. Its local bloom time tends to occur in mid-May, and the Garden’s Blue Poppy Day will mark the occasion.

The festivities will run for six hours and will include activities for both the young and old. A meadow of these blue flowers will be in bloom to walk through and take pictures, and those who require a mobility device can participate by following along the ADA accessible path. The venue’s well stocked nursery will be running a plant sale so that everyone can take some home for their own garden. Volunteers are needed to help make the celebration a success.

A sponsorship program has been put in place for the festival, and it may be a good fit for local businesses of all sizes. The names and branding can be included in the marketing materials prepared for an organization by printing services companies.

This warm welcome to spring’s arrival will be on offer on May 17. It will be held at 2525 S 336th Street in Federal Way, starting at 10:00 am. Anyone interested in volunteering or sponsoring the festivities can find out more through its web listing.
