While people may have always been interested in learning more about their family’s heritage, the advent of home DNA testing kits has made this even more popular, and a Federal Way workshop will introduce this technology to the public.
Many companies now offer home DNA testing, the results of which may be used in a variety of ways. This class will explore the topic from a genealogy perspective, and is geared towards those age 13 and up.
During the activity, genealogist Claudia Breland will share her expertise, offering tips and other advice. She will discuss interpreting ethnicity results and what they mean, as well as how to sort DNA relatives into networks, and the attendees will also talk about how to contact any relatives they find. Advance registration is not needed, but those who require an accommodation due to a disability are asked to contact access@kcls.org at least a week ahead of time.
With libraries being community hubs that provide a variety of learning opportunities and other activities, a flyer printing company can be called on to create promotional materials that keep the local public informed about items on their upcoming agendas.
The “Decoding Your DNA Test Kit Result” workshop will be on offer on Saturday, February 11. Everyone is asked to be in their seats by its scheduled start time of 3:00 pm.
