Celebrating Winter: The Mossyback Morris Men will be brightening up January by featuring traditional dances in a celebration of culture and camaraderie.
The event is an hour long and features mainly dances from the Cotswold area of England. The performance is now in its fourth year and has become a highly anticipated winter tradition.
This year, the featured dance will be the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance, which originated in Medieval times in the village of Abbots Bromley in Staffordshire, England. The folk dance in its modern form involves a pair of reindeer antlers, a hobby horse, a fool, and Maid Marian. The original purpose of the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance was to ensure successful hunting in the New Year.
The dancers performing are the Mossyback Morris Men, which is an all-male folk dancing group that first got started in the Seattle area in 1980. The group commonly follows the dancing traditions of the villages of Bledington and Ducklington, England, and has even performed for Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh.
