The city of Everett is looking to support the local economy by providing monetary assistance to nonprofit event-planning groups that meet certain requirements.
The money is coming from the city’s Hotel-Motel Fund. This means that any group that wants to receive support must be able to show that their event is contributing to overnight stays within the city. This could be because the idea itself takes more than one day, or because the planners can demonstrate that it will lead to more hotel stays in the future. Proposals must be made in advance if the group wants to receive money from the fund.
The economic impact of the proposed event also has to be quantified in some way, and a system of measuring said impact also has to be given. The city will be looking for verification of the results after the event has ended. One suggestion from the city is that groups look to plan and market two separate events together, with Flyers and marketing including hotel offers alongside the joint events.
Proposals for events to take advantage of the Hotel-Motel Fund are due at the City of Everett’s Clerk Office, located at 2930 Wetmore Ave. no later than 5:00 pm today, February 1. Applications are available on the city website or by visiting the City Council Office. Any groups interested in more information should contact the city directly.
