The Port of Everett has invested $635m, using private and public investments, to revitalize the waterfront in an attempt to attract younger consumers to live in the area.
Everett will build a new hotel, several types of housing options, and a new pedestrian bridge to connect the Grand Ave area to the new waterfront development.
A 7,000 square foot hotel will be built on the waterfront called the Indigo Hotel, which will have 142 rooms.
Terrie Battuello, who is chief of business development for the Port of Everett, says that this project will revitalize land that would otherwise be wasted.
Many of the empty lots will have luxury apartments built on them. These apartments are needed for residents, according to Terrie Battuello.
Over 700 people are on the waiting list for the new apartments, with a mix of millennials and older people. Many consumers have signed up for housing that will be available a year and a half from now.
In the second and third phase of this project, restaurants will be built, along with a spray pool and a new amphitheater. This should be completed by 2023.
This revitalization project is expected to create over 2,000 jobs in Everett, so there could be a surge in business card printing in the area before the hotel and pedestrian bridge open in the summer.
