Recently, U.S. Figure Skating announced that the 2018 Skate America will be held at the Xfinity Arena next October. This will be first stop in the international figure skating series.
The event is part of the International Skating Union Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, and marks a return of skating to Everett.
The Xfinity Arena hosts sporting events, concerts, shows, and hockey games. Its featured hockey team is the Everett Silvertips. The Xfinity Arena is owned by the Everett Public Facilities District.
U.S. Figure Skating president, Sam Auxier said they saw a community that was passionate about figure skating in Everett. That is why they chose this location.
The mayor of Everett, Ray Stephanson, said they were excited to be hosting skaters from all over the world next fall, and hoped they will enjoy the local restaurants, shops, and hotels.
The three-day event will include competition in the categories of ladies’, men’s, ice dance, and pairs. This event will be shown on national TV.
The 2008 Skate America had world champion skater Michele Kwan, Kristi Yamaguchi, and Scott Hamilton competing. The figure skaters that will compete in 2018 will be announced in June.
