An interesting bit of Bellingham history will be brought to life soon.
Residents and visitors to Bellingham who have explored the Historic Fairhaven District may have noticed the “Fairhaven Markers” located there. The markers display odd and puzzling messages, like “Dead Men Displayed Here, 1890.”
Thanks to Kolby LaBree, a member of the Good Time Girls, those messages will no longer be so mysterious. LaBree will be conducting a virtual tour of the markers, and take an in-depth look at the stories behind them, using historical photographs and filmed footage. A question and answer session will also be part of the event.
The Fairhaven Markers are along Harris Avenue, embedded in the grassy area between the sidewalk and the street. They were placed there by Tyrone Tillson, a historian and publisher of a local newspaper. He received two grants, one in the 1980s and the second in the 1990s, to create the markers to highlight events of the area's history. No doubt one of the most popular is one that reads “Junction Saloon-- Nothing of interest happened here March 17, 1893.”
The virtual lecture will be conducted on Wednesday, November 18, from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The fee is $10 for each device, no matter how many people watch. Once the fee is paid, an email will be sent with the link to the Zoom lecture, and the password. The logo on the city's website is a good example of effective Logo Design.
