Pink Martini and its frequent lead singer, China Forbes, will be at the Mount Baker Theatre to wow audiences. Thomas Lauderdale founded Pink Martini in 1994. When he created the group, he drew on genres such as jazz, pop, Latin, and classical, to appeal to all audiences. He invited China Forbes, who had attended Harvard University with Lauderdale, to join the group, which she did. Pink Martini released their first single, “Sympathique, in 1997, and had the satisfaction of having it nominated for “Song of the Year” at France’s Victoires de la Musique Awards.
The group varies in size from 10 to 12 musicians, who draw inspiration from musical genres throughout the world. They also perform in 25 different languages, and have appeared with symphony orchestras and in concert in North and South America, New Zealand, Australia, Northern Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, Greece, Asia, and throughout Europe. To date, they have sold more than three million albums.
