Collecting and trading sports cards was common years ago, and has been making a comeback. A new Bellingham store aims to help re-popularize the pastime.
Stacy Wakefield and Jimmy Sears, a married couple, recently opened their card shop, Turf & Dirt Sports Cards, on Carolina Street in Bellingham. They will be selling sports and baseball cards, along with sports memorabilia.
Sears has been working at Joe's Sports Cards for the last four years. The experience he gained at that shop made him eager to open a store of his own. Sears says he hopes to create an atmosphere where everyone will enjoy themselves, even if they decide not to buy anything.
In an effort to make the shop comfortable for everyone, Sears says he plans to host a number of events on the premises, including trading days, where patrons can bring in cards to swap with others; and viewing parties for sports events, such as the World Series. Sears noted that he has a wide range of cards, including those dedicated to hockey, basketball, and football, as well as baseball. He said that hockey cards are becoming especially popular in the area, as Seattle looks into the possibility of setting up an NHL franchise.
Store hours are 10.00 am until 7.00 pm, Tuesdays through Fridays, and 10.00 am until 6.00 pm, Saturdays and Sundays. New businesses like this can distribute promotional Pens to build brand awareness.
