The Bellingham National Art Exhibition and Awards will be taking place in the city, starting in just a few weeks.
The exhibition is juried by Scott Lawrimore of the Jacob Lawrence Gallery at the University of Washington. More than 600 submissions were received for this show, and only 101 pieces from more than 60 artists were accepted. Selections include video, photography, mixed media, ceramics, and a number of other genres.
Artists in the exhibition come from 16 states. The top three artists will receive cash prizes totaling $3,500, and there will also be a Popular Choice Award that wins $500 – this is chosen by the public.
Scott Lawrimore will be hosting a walkthrough on the opening day of the exhibition, and will explain why he chose certain works.
This show should appeal to art fans in the Bellingham area and also those who work for area printing companies, since seeing what is current and popular may give them inspiration in their own projects.
The Bellingham National Art Exhibition and Awards is showing at the Whatcom Museum Lightcatcher Building from May 31 to September 6. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday; admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students, seniors, and military, and $4.50 for children between the ages of two and five.
