Musical spoof of popular show comes to Bellingham

Fans of “Friends” in Bellingham have a treat headed their way this February.

“FRIENDS! The Musical Parody” is a musical spoof of the hugely popular television series “Friends.” The show ran from 1994 until 2004 on NBC, winning the nomination for the Primetime Emmy 62 times. In 2002, the show’s eighth season won the award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

The show followed the daily lives of six friends, all in their twenties and thirties, living in New York City. It starred Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, and is often cited as a true ensemble show, as no one character was allowed to dominate.

The upcoming musical reintroduces everyone’s favorite characters, who are gathered at “Central Perk,” their favorite coffee shop, when a runaway bride appears and the whole gang becomes involved in her dilemma. The creators of the musical, Tobly and Bob McSmith, have created five other shows that poke fun at various television series including “90210,” and “Full House.”

In their performance of “Friends,” the McSmiths have taken what they believe to be the top moments of the show, and recreated them as part of a fast-moving, uncensored romp that will remind audiences of everything they loved about the show. When events like this are scheduled, organizers can use poster printing to create attractive advertising to bring in audiences.

The show is scheduled for February 23 at 7.00 pm at the Mount Baker Theatre in Bellingham, and is recommended for mature audiences.
