Music lovers in Bellingham have several options for their enjoyment over the next few months.
The city is home to the Bellingham Festival Orchestra, but another much less formal series of events is also on the schedule – Downtown Sounds. The event got its start in 2005 as a small group of musicians playing in an alley. From there, the event has grown and now takes up three blocks on Holly, Prospect, and Bay Streets. Bands from throughout the country come to play in Bellingham.
An urban music festival, Downtown Sounds has now been running for 17 years, and is the hottest attraction in the city in the summer months. The 2022 line-up in order is Nite Wave, The Cumbieros, Outer Orbit, the LowDown Brass Band, and Miles Harris & the Deep Cuts.
Nite Wave is a cover band that concentrates on the songs of the 1980s and once opened for Billy Idol. The Cumbieros are an 11-piece band with a Latin flair, while Outer Orbit is a funk soul outfit. The LowDown Brass Band is an all-horn outfit that represents the unique sounds of Chicago, and Miles Harris & the Deep Cuts is a funk and soul band.
In addition to the music, a beverage garden and food vendors from the local area are also on hand. The series of five concerts begins July 6, continues July 13, 20, and 27, and winds up August 3. Organizers of events like this can use banner printing to create signage appropriate for each performer.
