Music festival in Bellingham this September

An upcoming event in Bellingham will bring two days of quintessential American music to the city, in addition to raising money for a good cause.

The Whatcom Parks and Recreation Foundation (WPRF) and 5 Starr James are presenting the North Cascades Bluegrass Festival. The event raises money for the WPRF, which is a nonprofit organization that promotes and supports trails, parks, and other recreational opportunities in Whatcom County. 5 Starr Jams provides opportunities for musicians who play acoustic stringed instruments to get together with other talented players.

Seven bands will appear on the Main Stage, but the bands that will play on the Access Living Showcase Stage are still being finalized. Those on the Main Stage are the Kruger Brothers, Red Wine, Kristen Grainger & True North, ShadowGrass, Lonesome Town Painters, Gospel Show with Roosevelt Road & Friends, and the North Cascades Bluegrass Band.

In addition to enjoying the music, festival attendees will have a chance to attend workshops led by artists from the bands. Among the options are a class on “Guitar and Banjo Licks with Tonality and Timing” led by Clay Russell and Kyser George from ShadowGrass. Thirteen workshops are already scheduled, with more slots to be filled. A cider and beer garden, food vendors, and craftspeople will also be on hand.

The Bluegrass Festival is September 2 and 3 at the Deming Log Show Showgrounds in Bellingham. Organizers events like this can use flyer printing to create handouts for attendees including a schedule of performances.
