Holiday concerts for Bellingham

A concert of special Christmas music is coming up in Bellingham.

The Bellingham Symphony Orchestra will be joined by Ibidunni Ojikutu and Richard Hodges for the 9th Annual Holiday Magic performance. The show will include a orchestra-accompanied reading of “Twas The Night Before Christmas,” as well as classics and a family sing-along.

Ibidunni Ojikutu, a soprano, is a graduate of Bellingham High School. She is a freelance artist and teaching artist with Seattle Opera, and Seattle Opera Outreach. She appeared as Strawberry Woman and Serena in “Porgy and Bess,” earning her a rave from Opera News, which said her performance:

“. . . was as charming as the lilt in her voice.”

She is frequently a guest performer with organizations such as the Seattle Art Song Society (SASS), and was featured in the “Music From Home” concert series by Lakewold Gardens.

The New York Times has described Richard Hodges as a “Powerhouse Baritone.” He has sung at the Metropolitan Opera, and is noted for his title roles in “Il Tabarro,” “Porgy and Bess,” “Hamlet,” and “Gianni Schicchi.” He is also a composer and writer, and currently is the Director of Voice Studies at Western Washington University in Bellingham.

The BSO: Holiday Magic concert takes place on December 15 at 3.00 pm, at the Mount Baker Theatre. Brochure printing techniques can be used to create programs for events like this, as people often keep programs as souvenirs.
