As the weather warms up, people enjoy getting outdoors again, especially to help the community, and a volunteer opportunity is coming up in Bellingham.
The event is asking for people to join a Community Work Party to work on the Willow Spring area at Squalicum Creek Park. The volunteers will be caring for native plants in the area, which is undergoing restoration. The Willow Spring project will build wetlands as well as new salmon habitat along the west side of Squalicum Creek Park.
People of all skill levels and ages are welcome to join the beautification effort, although volunteers younger than 14 must be in the company of a guardian or parent. In addition, because of COVID-19, everyone is required to RSVP, and the size of work parties will be limited. Volunteers are required to follow health guidelines including wearing a mask and maintaining the recommended social distance. Volunteers will work in groups of five, separated from other groups, and everyone is asked to commit to remaining the entire length of the event.
Instructions will be provided, as will hand sanitizer, gloves, and tools. Volunteers should dress appropriately, wearing sturdy shoes, and masks. Flyer printing can be used to create instructional sheets for volunteers at events like this.
The work party is scheduled for April 10, from 9.00 am until 12.00 pm. Registered participants will receive reminders and parking information via email. Space is limited, so anyone interested needs to register early.
