Bellingham invited to run the bay

The annual Bellingham Bay Marathon will come at the end of September.

There will be a relay, 5K, 10K, half, and full marathon options. The course will be a run with views of the San Juan Islands, Bellingham Bay and the North Cascades mountains.

All runners will receive short-sleeve tech shirts with the event’s graphic design. Top finishers will receive cash prizes.

Markers will be placed every mile, aid stations with water located every two miles, gel stations at mile 8, 16 and 22, and toilets every 2.5 miles.

The full marathon will kick off first. The walkers will start at 6:45 am and the runners begin at 7:30 am. This course will begin at Lummi Nation and end in downtown Bellingham. It will be mostly road, some hills, and stretches of urban trails.

The marathon relay will also begin at 7:30 am. Teams of two-to-five complete the regular marathon course in five 5.24-mile legs. Teams can either run or walk the course.

The half marathon will start at 9:00 am and will begin and end in downtown Bellingham 1100 Railroad, at Depot Market Square. There will be markers every mile and aid stations, a gel station and two medical aid stations.

The 10K and 5K will start at 9:15 am. Finishers in these races will receive commemorative coins. Food, drinks, and live music will be at the finish line.

The Bellingham Bay Marathon is scheduled for September 30.
