A tribute band to one of the greatest groups in rock is set to appear in Bellingham.
Terrapin Flyer is a tribute band for the Grateful Dead, and has had the honor of playing with some of the members of the iconic group. The outfit got its start in 1999, when it played at Chicago’s Boulevard Café during the venue’s Sunday Grateful Dead Jam. They made connections in Chicago that enabled them to become of the nation’s best Dead tribute outfits, touring throughout the country.
The group had worked with Bob Bralove, Tom Constanten, and the late Vince Welnick, who were all keyboardists with the Dead. They also go on tour with Mark Karan Ratdog’s guitarist, and Melvin Seals, organist for the Jerry Garcia Band. They have also appeared with Grammy winning harpist Sugar Blue, and many other professionals, as well as major venues and festivals.
Critics have described Terrapin Flyer’s music as being an extension of the genre-blurring improvisational style that characterized the original Grateful Dead, putting on dynamic, high-energy shows that get audiences up on their feet, and providing a glimpse at what it would have been like to see the original group.
Terrapin Flyer will be at The Shakedown in Bellingham on May 3 at 7:30 pm. Organizers of events like this can promote them by using poster printing to create advertising.
