Annual street fair celebrates maritime history
The Drayton Harbor Days Festival street fair and maritime celebration is taking place in Blain for two days this August.
The theme of this year's event is pirates, and there will be a costume contest with prizes up for grabs. Visitors will have the opportunity to take self-guided tours of two visiting tall ships: the Lady Washington and the Hawaiian Chieftain. Other activities will include homemade raft races, boating demonstrations, model boat displays, and vintage steamboats. For the kids, there will be rides and games.
In addition, a variety of arts and crafts vendors will be on hand to sell their handmade merchandise. This will most likely include ceramic items, jewelry, and maritime-related home decor. Food will also be available for purchase and there will be musical entertainment provided throughout the day.
Vendors who wish to take part in the festival can rent a 10 x 10 foot space for $30. They must supply their own tables, chairs, and tents. Most of the vendors will likely come from all over the area, including nearby Bellingham, and many of them may decide to work with their favorite local printing company to help make their booth stand out from the others.
The festival is taking place at the Blaine Marina from August 2 to 3 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm each day. Admission is free. For more information, contact Carroll Solomon at 360-332-6484.
