Annual festival celebrates the maritime past

The Drayton Harbor Days Festival is taking place over two days early next month, presented by the Blaine Chamber of Commerce.

The festival celebrates the role maritime history has played in the area. There are set to be displays of tall ships and vintage steam boats on exhibit. There will be kids’ games, a scavenger hunt, craft activities, a pirate costume contest, and live musical entertainment. One of the most popular events of the day is the Prestigious George Raft Race, in which all rafts must be made from recyclable materials. The winner takes home a trophy.

Visitors are also invited to bring their pets to take part in the annual pet contest. Pets can be in costume, or may show off their best trick to the judges.

There will also be arts and crafts and food vendors on hand. Spaces are still available at the festival and fees are $30 for a 10 x 10-foot space, although vendors must bring their own tables, chairs, and tents.

This event attracts visitors from all over the area, including those from nearby Bellingham. To help spread the word, local printing companies often provide advertising materials such as Flyers.

The Drayton Harbor Days Festival will be held at the Blaine Boating Center from August 1 to 2 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. Admission is free. For more information, call 360-322-4544.
