Work begins on Woodbridge anti-congestion project

The ground has been broken on the Summit School Road project in Woodbridge, which will add a segment of 0.8 miles to the road. This will enable it to connect to the Homer Road Commuter Lot and Telegraph Road.

The project will have four lanes, a sidewalk measuring five feet wide, a median, and a path for shared use. The Homer Road Commuter Lot will get an additional 57 parking spaces.

It is believed by officials that this project will alleviate congestion on Minnieville Road, which is a major route between the middle and the eastern parts of the county.

Kenny Boddye, Occoquan District Supervisor, said that there has been much talk in the county about traffic safety and trying to be more focused on human traffic than vehicular traffic. He said that this project will address many of the issues that have been raised regarding what needs to be done in the area.

Local Print shops can help spread the word about such projects and their benefit for a region with Flyers and other printed materials.

The project is expected to cost $40m. The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, which allocates transportation funds in the region, has given $38m to the project. The Northern Virginia Transportation Commission will provide the additional $2m for the parking spaces in the commuter lot.
