Woodbridge to be considered for affordable housing project

KCG Development LLC, based in Indianapolis, is being asked by Prince William County to rezone just over seven acres at the intersection of Marblestone Drive and Prince William Parkway for an affordable housing project in Woodbridge.

The project will have 186 apartment units and will be aimed at those making between 60% and 80% of the medium income in the area. It will have three buildings in which there will be 40 apartments with three bedrooms, 85 with two bedrooms, 55 with one bedroom, and six studios. The range of the price of rent will be from $1,600 to $2,700 depending on unit size.

News about such potential developments can be made known throughout a community with flyer printing.

The application for rezoning says that there is a barrier for many people looking for high-quality affordable housing given the high cost of living and housing in the county. The application adds that the project being proposed is near many jobs in both the private and public sectors that would be supported by these new opportunities in housing.

The project includes four parcels of land that are zoned for agricultural, mixed-use, and mid-rise office development. The rezoning application calls for the land to become zoned as planned mixed residential. Since the housing is located where jobs are being created in this part of the county, this approach would benefit employers and increase economic development.
