Unique art exhibit to come to Woodbridge area

The ARTfactory in Manassas now has a new exhibit of works by Lukman Ahmad. The exhibit is called “Painting Musings” and may be of interest to art aficionados of nearby Woodbridge.

Ahmad is an American-Kurdish artist, and classic Kurdish folklore singing was the inspiration for his exhibit. This type of singing is known as Kurdish epics, which are unique to Kurdistan and a central part of the culture. The songs are passed down orally from generation to generation to preserve the cultural history of the region.

To ensure that this tradition is maintained, Ahmad transforms the abstract sound of the music into the two dimensions of the canvas and uses shape and color to illustrate the details of the lyrics. A piece of each Kurdish song is represented in the individual brush strokes of Ahmad’s compositions. Ahamd invites people to experience another culture through his interpretation and expression of these Kurdish epic songs.

Such an exhibit offers a unique opportunity for local Print shops to create Flyers and other materials to promote it.

There will be an artist reception from 6:00 to 8:00 pm this Saturday, May 20 with refreshments and live music by Raad Alghalibi, who plays the oud. The exhibition will be open until Saturday, June 10. The hours of the gallery are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Saturday.
