New treatment and technology at Woodbridge hospital

Sentara Medical Center in Woodbridge has introduced a new surgical system that will improve the outcomes for patients with breast cancer.

The SmartClip technology and Elucent EnVisio Surgical Navigation System can better target tumors, which enables procedures to be more accurate and offers less pain after the surgery for patients. Compared to marker systems that have traditionally been used for the past 50 years, this technology has a better record for preserving healthy tissue. A grain-of-rice-sized is implanted in the tissue prior to surgery and uses an electromagnetic signal to create a three-dimensional image of tumors in the breast.

Brochure printing is often used to provide more details for patients about such new technology and procedures, having educate and reassure them before the operation.

Dr. Jeffrey Sinclair from the Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, said that this a major milestone in the breast program offered at the hospital. He said that it is important that the medical profession continues to innovate and improve the care offered for this population in the United States that is constantly growing. He expressed his excitement that Sentara is the first to offer its patients this cutting-edge technology.

The Sentara Northern Virginia Comprehensive Breast Center is designated as an American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, and with the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
