The Nauticus science center in Norfolk will be holding a multi-week program where kids can learn about creating and sailing ships.
The ‘Design. Build. Sail. Nauticus Summer Camp’ is an experience that teaches children about the world of sailing through STEM-related activities. Campers will learn different sailing techniques and gain valuable skills such as teamwork and communication during the program. Participants will also create their own boats out of marine debris from the Elizabeth River. Other activities in the camp include science experiments and exploring the venue’s discovery center.
The Nauticus is an attraction located on downtown Norfolk’s waterfront that teaches visitors about the maritime environment and military. Several exhibits can be found on the ship, including the Nautical Neighborhood Aquarium, Norfolk in Time, and Stewards of the Sea. Students can go on self-guided tours at the museum and board the Schooner Virginia Tall Ship. Adults may take sailing courses at the attraction on topics like coastal navigation.
The first week of the camp will be held from June 26th to June 30th. The cost of attending the first four weeks of the program is $400, while the price of participating in the final two weeks is $475. Discounts are available for those who are members of the Nauticus. Attractions with summer programs such as this may use poster printing to share their special camps with families.
