Norfolk to teach leadership strategies to veterans

The Hampton Roads Workforce Council (HRWC) will organize a seminar for veterans at the Town Point Club in Norfolk.

From Service to Advocacy: A Journey of Leadership and Impact is a program where attendees can improve their leadership skills with help from Captain Janet Lomax, an experienced human resources officer and retired U.S. Navy officer. The topics at the seminar will include how to develop high-performing teams and build strong relationships with key stakeholders. Guests will also learn about how they can effectively support those in the military and veteran community.

The HRWC is an organization that supports workforce development programs in several areas throughout the Hampton Roads region, including Virginia Beach, James City, and Portsmouth. Shawn Avery is the council’s current president. The organization founded the Hampton Roads Veterans Employment Center, a facility in Norfolk and Newport News that connects veterans with employment opportunities in the community. The group also helps transitioning service members, student veterans, and military spouses.

The leadership seminar will be held on Friday, September 19th from 8:00 am to 9:00 am. There is no cost to attend Lomax’s presentation, though guests are required to register in advance. The lecture is designed to help C-level executives and senior military professionals enhance their leadership skills. Workforce groups in charge of similar activities may use flyer printing services to advertise their seminars.
