Saxophonist to perform at Norfolk jazz series

The Virginia Arts Festival will hold a jazz show at the Attucks Theatre in Norfolk that features the musician Joel Frahm.

Fans of jazz music can attend the first performance of the Attucks Jazz Series in January. The year's first headlining act will be Joel Frahm, a talented saxophonist who has over three decades of playing experience. Frahm has released many albums throughout his career, such as Lumination and The Bright Side. He has also performed with several notable jazz musicians, including Bill Charlap, Dianne Schuur, Brad Mehldau, and Freddy Cole.

Joel Frahm is a musician from Racine, Wisconsin who started playing in school with the Hall High School jazz band. He has taught classes at many schools, like the University of Michigan, the University of North Texas, and the University of Connecticut. Frahm was also part of the Monterey Jazz Festival's Next Generation program and has led workshops in Prague and Italy. He was even recently featured in Downbeat Magazine's Annual Readers Poll.

The jazz performance will be held on Saturday, January 17th at 7:30 pm. General admission to see Frahm's show will cost $42.25 per person. The Attucks Theatre's next performance in its jazz series will feature René Marie and will take place on Saturday, February 7th.
