Locals run through the heart of neighborhood

Norfolk residents can run in a race in a historic neighborhood next month.

The Heart of Ghent 10K is returning for its fourth annual event, which will benefit several local charities. Bands will be set up along the course entertaining both the participants and the spectators.

There will be a group stretch before and after the race. After running, participants can check out the post-race party, where there will be a food, live entertainment, and a raffle. Awards will be passed out to the top three male and female finishers overall and in each age group.

Registration costs $40 until September 25, and $45 on race day. Registration includes a t-shirt and other perks. The fee for the kids' run is $10 and includes a finisher's medal.

There is also a corporate team challenge where co-workers can run together. Individuals probably purchased digital Business Cards to be exchanged at the event.

Packet pickup will be held on September 25 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Running Etc., located on 707 Colley Avenue.

The 10K race kicks off on September 26 at 8:00 am, followed by the kids' race at 9:30 am. Race day registration and packet pickup will begin at 6:30 am.

The course begins and ends on Colley Avenue. Participants can gather at the Blair Middle School parking lot, located on 1520 Colley Avenue.
