This April, the city of Norfolk, Virginia will be celebrating their annual festival dedicated to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
In 1953, NATO created their first Command located in North America in Norfolk, which inspired city officials to form a festival dedicated to the alliance that celebrates foreign cultures. The event was initially known as the International Azalea Festival but was changed later in 2009 to the Norfolk NATO Festival. The goals for the celebration are to promote global peace while creating friendships around the world.
Many events will be held during the Norfolk NATO Festival. Attendees can view a rugby exhibition match featuring the French Army Rugby Team and the city’s hometown team the Norfolk Blues. The 66th Annual Parade of Nations will also occur during the festival, where guests can watch as over 100 parade units march throughout Downtown Norfolk. The parade will include floats that represent other countries, in addition to different international bands.
Visitors can also explore the International Village, allowing people to taste authentic foods and beverages from different countries while watching performances on the Market Stage. The event has utilized brochure printing to include Brochures among other goodies in the NATO Explorer Passport. All events during the Norfolk NATO Festival are free to attend. Both the parade and the International Village will be held on April 27th.
