Leesburg to honor state with Arbor Day tree planting

Leesburg will hold the Arbor Day Liberty Tree Planting & Picnic at Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve this April to celebrate a state anniversary.

The event is part of the VA250 statewide celebration, which marks Virginia’s 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. There will be various events happening throughout the state to commemorate pivotal state moments in American independence. The Leesburg Arbor Day tree planting will feature the planting of a Liberty Tree, which is the first of its kind in Virginia.

The Liberty Tree originated as an elm tree in Boston that became a symbol of colonial resistance against British rule. Though it was destroyed by the British, this only made the tree an even stronger rallying point. Across the 13 colonies, cities began planting these trees in defiance.

The Arbor Day planting of this tree calls back to this historic event and celebrates the Arbor Day tradition of highlighting environmental concerns. Attendees will also enjoy a leisurely picnic after the planting.

Organizers of such events may decide to prepare informative Brochures detailing the history and significance of the event, and as such, they may call upon local Print shops specializing in brochure printing.

The Arbor Day event is scheduled for Friday, April 24 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve is located at 21085 The Woods Road, Leesburg.
