Orem gardeners ready for spring
Over the next few weeks, Central Utah Water Conservancy District will be presenting three informative programs for those gardeners wishing to grow fruit trees and raspberries, and learn about bees.
The first program will be an hour-long presentation about growing fruit trees. Taun Beddes, from USU Extension, will be discussing various kinds of fruit-bearing trees that work well in this area. Guests will learn how to properly plant and prune their fruit trees. Tree care, pest control, and tips on how to reap the best harvest will also be on the agenda. The ‘Fruit Trees at Home’” program will be from 7:00 until 8:00 pm next Wednesday, February 20. Although the event will be free, pre-registration is required.
On Saturday, March 2, Dr. Joseph Wilson will be presenting a talk about Utah pollinators. Bees, along with other pollinators, will be discussed. Dr. Wilson will denote varieties of bees that are native to this area and which plants attract them. This class will be from 10:00 until 11:00 am.
Raspberries will be the topic for Wayne McBride of McBride’s Briar Patch on Saturday, March 9 from 10:00 until 11:00 am. He will discuss the best varieties of raspberries that grow here and tips on how to grow productive healthy plants.
Guests may want to ask these experts for their business cards to contact them later for advice or troubleshooting.
