Living history event helps Orem celebrate US independence

Independence Day is right around the corner, and Orem residents who want to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday will have an educational event to look forward to.

The Colonial Heritage Festival will open its gates to visitors and residents in Orem this July, providing multiple days of learning about the nation’s founding. The three-day event is scheduled to overlap with Independence Day, giving interested individuals a setting where they can celebrate and learn from local historians.

Organizers are arranging for living historians from around the nation to come to town to participate in this year’s event. Guests will get to learn the details of daily life for printers, coopers, woodworkers, and others to get a better idea of life in a colonial village in the 18th century. Banner printing is colorful and stands out, making it an excellent way to promote events like this in the community and bring in a larger audience.

Other re-enactors will be at the host site to teach more about the British Army, Continental Army, and colonial militia. History enthusiasts will also get to enjoy a tea with re-enactors playing Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin.

Orem’s Scera Park South will be the host site for the living history experience, which begins at 9:00 AM on Thursday, July 2. General admission is free, and families should expect loud noises.
