Sourdough workshop offers baking skills in Orem
A hands-on workshop is in the works in Orem with the goal of teaching interested parties the skills and techniques required to make sourdough bread.
The Sourdough Breadmaking Workshop 101, presented by Sun River Gardens, is getting ready to open enrollment to area residents who want to learn the art of baking sourdough bread. The session will be led by Nancy Nielson, a guest instructor and experienced baker who will share her expertise with students in a warm and inclusive setting.
The class is open to new students with no baking background, as well as attendees who have previously attended classes at Sun River Gardens. New students will learn the foundational tips and techniques of sourdough, with a focus on feeding and maintaining a sourdough starter. Printing services can provide recipes, instructions, and other informational documents to participants in such classes to provide a more beneficial learning experience.
Returning students will get to use their skills to try provided recipes, including focaccia, cakes, cookies, and pizza crusts. Nielson will provide tips for using a sourdough leaven for an even baking process and discuss the helpful tools to have on hand when baking.
The baking workshop will be held at 1248 North State Street in Orem. It’s scheduled to start at 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 1st. Registration is open online and costs $45 per person.
