To celebrate our nation’s independence here in town we can meet history face to face at the Colonial Heritage Festival.
Visitors will meet colonial artisans, view demonstrations and exhibits. Exhibitors will include a blacksmith, broom maker, spoon maker, gunsmith, potter, chandler, and a cooper. Guests will view an apothecary shop, a women’s boutique and the Isaiah Thomas Print Shop. People clad in period costumes will depict frontier life and home life.
Attendees will be encouraged to join in public trials and debates. The Old North Church will have storytellers relating the events that shaped our nation.
History buffs will want to mark their Calendars so they can enjoy the cannon firing, gun displays and watch military skirmishes between the English Redcoats and the Continental Army. Spectators may join the Culper spy ring, but some unlucky participants will get locked in the pillory.
The park museum will also have historical artifacts such as the Stone Declaration of Independence, William Bradford’s bible, letters from George Washington, one of the first Copies of the Declaration of Independence and Ulysses W. Grant’s poker table.
Local children may enjoy attending the colonial school where Alpine School District teachers will be overseeing colonial games and daily children’s chores.
The event will run from July 1st until the 4th in SCERA Park, 600 S. State St. Orem.
