Orchestras combine for an evening of classical music

Utah Valley University (UVU) and the Utah Valley Youth (UVY) symphony is inviting the Orem community to its upcoming Virtuosity in Utah Valley event.

The UVY, the oldest youth symphony in the valley, joins The UVU symphony for an evening of classical music.

The UVY Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit, self-funding organization steered by a committee of educator musicians. Its purpose is to provide young talented musicians with an opportunity to present standard classical works to the public.

The organization’s mission expands to include presenting music that supports the intellectual, social, and aesthetic development of the community, as well as the youth. Since this is a nonprofit organization, it depends on support by the public. Local printing companies looking for a good way to support the arts could provide programs for its performances.

The performance will be conducted by the music director and conductor of the youth orchestra, Cheung Chau. Mr. Cheung is a director of Orchestral Studies at UVU and of Poland’s Sinfonietta Polonia. He received a double doctorate degree in cello and wind ensemble conducting at the New England Conservatory.

The performance is scheduled for this Saturday, November 1, at 7:30 pm at the UVU Sorensen Center, 800 West University Parkway, Orem and will be held in the Grande Ballroom on the 1st floor of the Student Center. Admission will be $10.
